How does a care program adapted from the birth of a horse constitute the keystone of a high-level career?

Excerpts from the publication of Sylvie Baldeck, osteopath – Studforlife of 08/11/2020:

How does a care program adapted from the birth of a horse constitute the keystone of a high-level career?

“A horse that suffered from nutritional deficiencies during its youth will have physical consequences throughout its life and nothing can compensate for the pathologies developed during this period. It is therefore necessary to take care of the quality of the pastures of the broodmares and the quantity of food that they are given so that the fetuses do not miss anything.

The first key stage in the care pathway takes place between 0 and 3 years of age. Particular importance must be given to healthy and balanced food. Care must be taken that the diet is not too rich because too much is the enemy of good. Similarly, it is recommended not to give them herbs saturated with chemical fertilizers and to leave hedges with medicinal properties available to them so that they can instinctively use them when they feel the need. The floors must be stable in order to avoid sprains and engorgement of the muscles.

The horses walk a great deal; at night alone, they travel about 17 kms. Horses, having a prey instinct, are constantly active. They have to walk to develop and allow their blood system to do. This method avoids pathologies such as bone and muscle micro trauma.

We are lucky to be by the sea and to be able to benefit from the marshes in our meadows for part of the winter; they make the grass rich in trace elements. This environment is the grandmother’s secret of the great Norman breeders because it ensures longevity and good health for the horses. Well raised, horses will not have a deficiency, the quality of their bones will be significantly higher.

Breeding conditions will play an essential role. The current system requires having mounts with substantial resources. It is therefore not necessary that the horse has suffered during this period and is afraid to give himself up completely to chain the efforts. »
